In the past decade, our understanding of the many benefits of the arts on health and well-being has grown. There is research evidence to support that music engages many different areas of the brain and may aid to strengthen brain networks and pathways involved in emotion, sensory and motor processes, mood, and memory. For example, rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS), a neurologic music therapy that involves the presentation of auditory rhythmic cues, has shown great promise for the treatment of gait disorders in individuals living with Parkinson’s disease.

Join LBDA for this interactive Wellness Workshop featuring a world-renowned pioneer in the field of music therapy, Dr. Concetta Tomaino. Dr. Tomaino will discuss the many potential benefits of music therapy on symptom management and wellbeing for people living with LBD and their care partners, and guide interactive activities with the audience to experience the power of music.

By the completion of this presentation, learners will be able to:

1. Summarize the ways in which music engages the brain and can impact symptoms of LBD and wellbeing.

2. Practice interactive music therapy interventions to experience how they can benefit you.

3. Identify ways to access music therapy virtually or in your community.
