Meet Brandon, a resident at South Mountain Restoration Center in Pennsylvania whose life has been shaped by music.
A pianist, vocalist, and composer, Brandon has spent much of his life immersed in music. He enjoys a wide range of styles, from Irish music and Broadway to classical and beyond. Through MUSIC & MEMORY®, a program of the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF), Brandon can create a personalized listening experience that reflects his interests and meets his needs in the moment.
For Brandon, music is more than entertainment. Listening helps him tune out distractions, focus on his composing, and reconnect with the sounds he has cherished throughout his life. The ability to change his playlist whenever he likes gives him control over his musical experience and allows his lifelong passion to remain part of his daily routine.
Brandon’s story reflects an important part of IMNF’s mission: recognizing the unique role music can play in supporting people’s well-being, self-expression, and quality of life.
Through our work, IMNF helps advance:
- Music-based approaches to well-being that honor each person’s individual preferences, abilities, and life experiences
- Education and training that help caregivers and healthcare professionals use music more effectively
- Meaningful engagement and connection that support identity, independence, and quality of life
At IMNF, we believe music remains an important part of who we are throughout our lives. Through programs like Music & Memory, we help people continue to engage with the things they love. Brandon’s story is a reminder of what that connection can make possible.
